Introduction to Networking Ports
In networking, a port is a logical communication endpoint. Ports are represented as 16-bit unsigned integers ranging from 0 to 65535. For example, Port 80 is commonly used for HTTP traffic. You can view open connections using tools like "netstat -n".
1. System ports: Range 0–1,023
2. Registered ports: Range 1,024–49,151
3. Dynamic ports: Range 49,152–65,535
LutziPortChecker allows you to scan the following:
- System Ports (0–1023): Used by core services.
- Registered Ports (1024–49151): Available for registration and often used by applications.
- Dynamic Ports (49152–65535): Also known as private or ephemeral ports.
You can select any specific range or scan all ports. Aggressive Mode lets you choose the scan speed: Slow, Medium, or Fast, to adapt to your network conditions.
MAC Vendor Lookup: LutziPortChecker also retrieves the MAC address and performs a vendor lookup, helping identify devices on the network.
Output & Formats
Scan results can be saved in the following formats:
- TXT: Human-readable plain text log
- CSV: Comma-separated format for spreadsheet and data analysis
- DOC: Structured report for formal documentation
Scheduling and Automation
LutziPortChecker includes a scheduling engine that lets you:
- Schedule one-time scans at specific dates and times
- Set recurring scans (e.g., daily, weekly)
- Define retrieval frequency and automate full reports
Scan speed can be customized based on your needs:
- Slow: Safe and stealthy
- Medium: Balanced
- Fast: Aggressive and quick
Below is a visual demonstration of scan speed options.
